STEP 1: FUNDAMENTALS OF AESTHETIC MEDICINE

Step 1: Fundamentals of Aesthetic Medicine is the foundational training program of the American Board of Aesthetic Medicine and Cosmetic Surgery (ABAMCS), designed to introduce eligible healthcare professionals to the essential scientific principles, clinical concepts, and fundamental techniques used in aesthetic medicine.
 

Delivered over three intensive days, the program combines structured theoretical education, live clinical demonstrations, and supervised hands-on training to provide participants with a comprehensive introduction to some of the most commonly performed procedures in aesthetic medical practice.

The curriculum places particular emphasis on the principles that underpin safe and responsible aesthetic treatment:

Anatomy → Assessment → Treatment Planning → Technique → Safety
 

Participants progress from understanding skin, hair, and facial anatomy to aesthetic consultation, patient assessment, treatment selection, procedural principles, complication awareness, and practical clinical training.
 

Comprehensive Foundation in Aesthetic Medicine
 

The program begins with the fundamentals of skin and hair anatomy and introduces participants to commonly used skin rejuvenation and energy-based modalities.

Training includes chemical peeling, microneedling, Lasers, BroadBand Light (BBL), Intense Pulsed Light (IPL), Radiofrequency (RF), Ultrasound, and ultrasound-based skin tightening.
 

Participants also receive practical exposure through laser machine familiarization and supervised hands-on training in chemical peeling and microneedling.
 

The program then progresses to aesthetic consultation and injectable treatments, beginning with facial anatomy relevant to Botulinum Toxin injections, cosmeceuticals and skin preparation, Botulinum Toxin principles, and injection marking.
 

These concepts are reinforced through live demonstration and supervised hands-on Botulinum Toxin training. Participants are also introduced to the business of aesthetic medicine, providing broader insight into aesthetic medical practice.
 

The final component focuses on facial assessment and dermal fillers, including the assessment of beauty, facial anatomy for filler treatments, dermal filler principles, considerations surrounding blunt cannula use, and dermal filler complications.
 

The course concludes with an extensive live demonstration and supervised hands-on dermal filler session, allowing participants to connect anatomical knowledge and treatment planning with practical technique.
 

Hands-On Clinical Training

Step 1 is designed to go beyond classroom-based learning.

Participants reinforce key concepts through live demonstrations and supervised practical sessions, including:

Chemical Peeling • Microneedling • Botulinum Toxin • Dermal Fillers

This integrated approach helps participants connect anatomy and theoretical knowledge with patient assessment, treatment planning, procedural technique, and clinical safety.
